Language (In)tolerance Panel
Tues, 11/19, 6-8PM, Ida Noyes
Cohosted by SGFC, CUSA, MEChA, OBS, OLAS, ECE, STAND, & PAASC, the panel will address issues caused by language intolerance. The panel of professors/scholars will give a 10-15 minute presentation of their chosen subject matter, whereupon the event will open up for Q&A discussion. The approximate time for the panel is 1.5 hours, with an additional 30 min left for dining and mingling - dinner will be provided. Total duration: 2 hours.
Professors/Scholars invited:
Lidwina van den Hout-Huijben is a professor of Spanish Language & Literature at the University of Chicago. She will discuss biculturalism, cultural preservation, identity and pride in our own culture.
Mauricio Tenorio is a professor of History at the University of Chicago. He will discuss the role of the Spanish language in the United States.
Jonathan Rosa is a graduate student at the University of Chicago. He will discuss race ideologies and racist thought involved in language intolerance.
